Sports Premium
The government are committed to improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. Funding has been allocated to primary schools and is ring-fenced, it can only be used to make additional and sustained improvements to the quality of PE and Sport offered in school.
This means we can use the premium to
- Develop or add to the PE and sport activities that school already offers
- Make improvements now that will benefit children joining the school in future years
We hope that improvements will be seen in
- The engagement of children in regular physical activity and improvement in children’s well-being
- The profile of sport will be raised
- Staff confidence, knowledge and skills will improve
- Children will have opportunities to participate in a broader range of sports
- Children will have opportunities to take part in competitive sport
School can use funding to
- Hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
- Provide training and resources to help teach PE more effectively
- Introduce new sports
- Encourage participation in sport
- Run sport competitions
- Increase pupil’s participation in School Games
- Run sports activities with other schools
Who is accountable?
- Schools are accountable for publishing how they have spent, and will spend, their funding on their school website
- Schools must include details about the impact the funding has had
- 5% of schools will be audited per year to ensure they are being compliant with their spending
Ofsted will report on the use of the PE Funding under leadership and management
